The above picture always makes me angry for the following reasons:
-All the vehicles my family own are not of German origin.
-As well as Russian vodka, I drink Hungarian vodka, Lithuanian vodka, Polish vodka, Swedish vodka etc. Not all Vodka is Russian, so whoever created this is stereotyping.
-If my pizza is sooooo Italian explain why it’s a Turkish family owning the takeaway, does that make it a Turkish pizza?
-Sometimes democracy is overrated. (but that’s my opinion).
-Not all coffee is from Brazil.
-If I only watched American movies I wouldn’t have seen some amazing foreign movies (e.g. Blue is the warmest colour, REC, REC2), so no not all of my movies are American.
-The 3 top producers of tea are China, India and Kenya. Not Sri Lanka where you will find the majority of the Tamil ethnic group (though they do produce tea). [Ethnic Tamil people can also be found in some parts of India and Maritius in smaller numbers than Sri Lanka].
-If you purchase your clothes from Marks and spencer your clothes are most likely produced in one of the following countries: UK, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Morocco and Indonesia. If you purchase your clothes in GAP they are likely from: Hong Kong, Philippines. If you purchase clothes from H&M they are likely from the following places including India: Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Hong Kong and Turkey. My point is that not all our clothes in the UK are indian.
-There are oil fields in many areas of the world not just around Saudi Arabia. In fact the UK does have it’s own oil fields in the north sea (off the coast of Scotland). Some oil is also purchased from Norwegian companies working in the same area of sea.In the past the UK has also obtained Oil from America, some south American countries and the middle east.
-I’m not going to say much on the electronics issues, but there are smaller companies in the UK that actually manufacture in the UK. Other countries include China, Indonesia, India and others.
-Contrary to this post, the numerals we use today (1, 2, 3) are not actually Arabic, they were created when Arab merchants took Indian scolars to Baghdad. The numeral 0 is known to be Indian anyway. Also the Latin/Roman numerals were hard to use in calculations as there was no numeral for 0. Hence the system we use today was adopted.
-The Alphabet we use today is Latin, but not in it’s pure form, it is a derivative that takes some letters from old Germanic runic script. (e.g. the rune Thorn which is our modern day P).
This is just me clearing up a few issues and slight issues I have with this picture. I don’t care if my neighbour is foreign, as long as they’re nice to me I’ll be nice to them, goes for anyone really foreign or not. Some of my closest friends are foreign. Hell my girlfriend is foreign!
One thing I can’t stand is stereotyping, which is something this picture does at certain points. Everyone’s jumping on the “I’m not a racist” bandwagon. We’re all people, get over it! Maybe you guys need to pull yourselves together, I know for a fact pretty much everyone I see re-posting that picture isn’t even close to a single foreign person.
It makes me sad inside and very angry.
(Also just realised I missed out the kebab thing, kebabs are awesome :D )
